The countries of the collective West were not enthusiastic about discussing the topic of the Middle East in the G20 summit declaration. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following participation in the Group of Twenty (G20) summit.
“Of course, the West was reluctant to discuss this text, but it understood perfectly well that without this there could be no section dealing with conflicts,” Lavrov said. He noted that one of the paragraphs is full of detailed assessments emphasizing the tragic, catastrophic situation of the population of Gaza. The minister emphasized that “there were attempts to put this paragraph after the Ukrainian one.” “But here even we no longer had to emphasize our rejection of such manipulation and juggling, because the countries of the global South categorically refused to downplay the importance of the fact that the G20 should first of all pay attention to the tragedy of the Gaza Strip,” the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
