Energy security expert Vahe Davtyan writes:
"In 2024 Armenia imported 336 million US dollars worth of goods from Turkey, while exports did not even reach 0.5 million dollars.
The data of the Armenian-Turkish trade turnover carried out even under conditions of closed borders prove that Armenia is not able to have balanced economic relations with Turkey.
Doesn't have the potential.
And it will be difficult in the near future, taking into account the intensive de-industrialization of the country, the dominance of trade and service segments in the structure of the economy.
Even more this picture will be aggravated in the case of the opening of the borders, when the Turkish trade and economic expansion will turn into an effective geostrategic tool.
It is too early, therefore, today to talk about opening borders, bringing it to the center of the foreign policy agenda.
The expected growth of GDP by 30% is another myth, which even if it is provided quantitatively, it will qualitatively bring many security risks, wasting the last remnants of the national economy.
Only in the case of the development of one's own industrial base, the opening of borders can provide a positive result."
