Scientists from Ohio State University have shown that 10-12 weeks of punctuation can significantly reduce the symptoms of depression. The study was published in the "Translational Psychiatry" magazine.
The experience took part in 24 students, who were diagnosed with a major depressive disorder, 16 of which have completed the program. Everyone continued to get standard treatment, counseling or medication, and additional followed by carbohydrate (less than 50 grams of carbohydrates, moderately protein and emphasis on healthy fat, such as olive oil, nuts and fish).
The results were impressive. The severity of the independent and clinically estimated depression has decreased by about 70%. At the end of the study, there were no signs of medium or heavy depression in the participants. Moreover, most students have lost an average of 5 kg (£ 11), the results of cognitive tests have improved, and the BDNF protein level, which is important for neurons' health, has increased by 32%.
Scientists note that the impact is not explained only by loss of weight or the level of the tiles in the blood. The positive impact of the diet on mood can be related to more complex metabolic processes, including reduction of inflammation and improving energy metabolism.
"We see real potential here to help more people than in traditional approaches," said psychiatrist Ryan.
