A simple way to reduce the risk of Demencies has been discovered by 40%

People over the age of 60, who maintain a healthy diet, are less likely to have cognitive disorders. This conclusion was reached by the researchers from China. The work was published in the Geriatric Nursing magazine.

Cognitive functions are gradually changing with age. Information processing speed decreases, it is difficult to remember several tasks at the same time, but vocabulary and general knowledge, on the contrary, can stay stable. However, some elderly people are developing cognitive impairments, serious disorders of memory, attention, speech and other higher functions, which are often associated with Alzheimer's disease or vascular problems.

In order to clarify the role of food in these processes, scientists have analyzed research on the relationship between diet and cognitive performance in people over the age of 60. It turned out that those who followed a healthy diet, such as the Mediterranean or Mind diet, have 40% less likely to have cognitive disorders than their peers that follow the not-so-healthy diet.

"Elderly people should strive to include vegetables, fruits, fish and beans in every meal. Some foods such as dairy products are still needed to study, "said the authors of the study.

The healthy diet is undergradent includes the abundance of fruits, vegetables, complete grains, nuts, olives, moderate fish and poultry, and restriction of red meat, sweets and fried food.

The authors emphasize that although the connection between the food and cognitive function is confirmed by many data, the analysis does not allow the final conclusions on the causal connection.
