A woman in Kazakhstan came home a month after her funeral

A retired woman born in Kazakhstan in 1953 was declared dead and her relatives were even given a death certificate, but a month later she unexpectedly returned home safely, Tengrinews.kz reports.

The woman moved to her sister's house in Taraz in August 2024, but disappeared after Kurban Bayram 2025. The relatives contacted the police, and in August of the same year, a body was found in a field near the village, which his family members identified as the body of their relative. Based on this, a death registration was made and a death certificate was issued.

However, in September 2025, the woman suddenly appeared at her brother's house. He said that after Eid al-Adha, he moved to another village and worked to pick onions while living with his landlady. When his pension payments were stopped, he returned to Taraz and learned that he was presumed dead.

The court ordered the second forensic and genetic examination and confirmed that the deceased is not that woman. The criminal case initiated by the fact of death was terminated, and the death record and certificate were declared invalid.
