Doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov urged viewers not to take antibiotics without a prescription. The specialist spoke about the dangers of such actions during the program "About the most important thing", which is broadcast on the TV channel "Russia 1".
During the program, Myasnikov presented one of the most important rules for maintaining gut health.
"The first rule of thumb for a healthy gut is not to take antibiotics unnecessarily," she said.
The doctor explained that antibiotics can negatively affect the gut microbiome, which is important for human well-being.
Myasnikov warned viewers not to give antibiotics to babies under one year old. The presenter noted that taking such drugs can cause allergies and asthma, as well as a generally weakened immune system.
Previously, family physician and MD Andrei Kondrakhin suggested creating an "antibiotic use passport" for each patient, recording the medication, dosage and frequency of administration in their medical records. The expert noted that many people are beginning to experience resistance to antibiotics. The "profile" will help doctors understand how many antibiotics a person has taken during their lifetime or during a certain period of time.
