Scientists have revealed the hidden signs of alcoholism

Increasing blood pressure and heart beats can be an early signs of alcohol dependence. This conclusion was researchers from the US National Institute of Drug Abuse. The results of the study were published "Alcohol. Clinical and Experimental Research "magazine.

Scientists have tried to understand whether simple and affordable methods, such as blood pressure measurement and ECG (electrocardiography), can help identify changes in heart function to people with different levels of alcohol consumption. About 1,100 people took part in the study.

Among the volunteers were both people receiving alcohol dependence and those who were not diagnosed such disorders. All participants are divided into four phenotypes of alcohol consumption, medium to high risk.

The analysis has shown that the average frequency of blood pressure and heart rate has increased by people with higher risk of alcoholism. These indicators are also associated with high dependency and heavy withdrawal syndrome.

The connection between the changes of the heart function and alcoholism was especially strong in those who have not yet switched to visible abuse.

"This means that even the early stages of potential dependence signals can be found in simple and cheap methods," said scientists.
