Scientists have discovered five types of cancer in one tumor

The international team of scientists found out that one tumor can contain five different types of cancer cells. Researchers have reached this conclusion using a new product based on artificial intelligence. The results of the work were published in the Cancer Discovery magazine.

Previously, the tumors of cancer were relatively homogeneous, but the study confirmed that cells with different properties could be involved in coexistence. Some people aggressively multiply, others are resistant to treatment, while others remain "asleep" in a long time, but they later generate relapse.

This election was especially evident in the case of triple negative breast cancer, which is an aggressive form of illness. Such tumors do not respond to hormonal therapy, estrogen, progester and Her2 receptors.

Aanet AI algorithm analyzes the activity of individual coil cell genes and finds common features in them. Using this technology, scientists have studied three-time negative, Her2 positive and positive breast cancer samples. As a result, they were able to identify five stable cancer cells, each of which behaves differently. Some are stronger metasticized, others do not respond to drugs, while others are associated with worse predictions.

According to the authors, tumors are currently being treated as if all their cells are the same. However, if there are those who do not respond to therapy, the disease returns. The new method allows not only to detect such cells, but also understand how they differ from the individual drugs to choose them all.

"Discovery can bring medicine to develop personalized treatment methods. Instead of standard approach, the patient will be able to receive therapy, which will be aimed at the specific composition of his tumor, "researchers said.

Now scientists are planning to test the technology of cancer on other types of tumors.
