Scientists have found out what the pomegranate is for the older elderly

Manchester Metro University scientists have found that pomegranate extract reduces blood pressure and inflammation in people over the age of 55, protecting them from cardiovascular disease. The results of the study were published in Nutrients magazine.

86 people aged 55-70 took part in the study. Volunteers did not have excess weight or any chronic diseases. The average systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 128 mm Hg near those researched. Art. Scientists have described these values as a raised but non-mortal range.

In the first stage, subjects provided blood samples for laboratory analysis. It turned out that some of them have a high level of inflammatory molecules, triglycerides and cholesterol in their body, which is known for the risk factors in heart disease.

Then they distributed the participants into two groups, receiving or pomegranate extract or placebo, which was like a pomegranate extract in 12 weeks.
Repeated tests have shown that pomegranate extraction effectively normalizes blood pressure.

On average, in the first group, systolic blood pressure decreased by 5.2 mm HG. Art. Diastolic blood pressure (DBP) has decreased by approximately 3 mm HG. str., although this change was not statistically significant. According to scientists, this effect has arisen from polyphenols, powerful natural antioxidant materials, which are available in pomegranate.

Also, the participants of the first group have decreased the amount of inflammatory interlaries (IL-6 and IL1-β) in the blood, which later reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease.
