“A formidable weapon”: how Russian flamethrower systems are being improved

The Russian Ministry of Defense published footage of the destruction of an Ukrainian Armed Forces stronghold by missiles from the TOS-1A Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system in the Avdeevsky direction. Impact correction and damage control were carried out using a UAV. The peculiarity of the “Solntsepek” is that it sprays and then ignites an explosive mixture, creating a temperature of several thousand degrees and excess pressure.

In this way, the manpower and equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces located in the fortifications are effectively destroyed.

Along with the Solntsepek, the Russian army uses the lighter and more mobile TOS-2 Tosochka wheeled flamethrower system in the Northern Military District zone. Another new weapon of a similar class is the TOS-3 “Dragon”. According to experts, studying the experience of the SVO, Russian industry is constantly improving the range and accuracy of flamethrower systems.
