Zori Balayan turned 90: the famous surgeon's son shared exclusive details from the anniversary. PHOTO

"Iravunk"writes:

ZORI BALAYAN, a prominent writer, publicist, and a leader of the Artsakh liberation struggle, has turned 90."Iravunk"has learned exclusive details about how the intellectual celebrated his anniversary from his son, a famous surgeonHAYK BALAYAN:

— Mr. Balayan, how did you celebrate your father's anniversary?

— Due to the difficult situation in our country and his health problems, we did not celebrate it with great pomp in some restaurant, but at home. But the anniversary was spent in a very warm, joyful atmosphere, with family members and grandchildren.

— Who did the 90-year-old Balayan receive congratulations from?

— There was a barrage of calls from both Armenia and different parts of the world. He received congratulations from pen pals, ideological sympathizers, and simply from his well-wishers. I was the one who constantly answered the phone calls, turned on the speakerphone so that he could hear. He received a congratulatory letter from the Writers' Union, even Baroness Caroline Cox sent her best wishes. Many people visited during the day to see him for at least 5-10 minutes, shake his hand and congratulate him.

— And how is Mr. Balayan's health now?

— May it stay like this, thank God. The important thing is that he be with us. In fact, we were all more happy on the occasion of the anniversary, because starting from his 50th birthday, we were always worried about our father's health. He underwent two surgeries, went through the difficult years of Artsakh. He had an inexplicable regimen, we were always afraid that something would happen to him. But, thank God, we are celebrating his 90th birthday.
