Official Yerevan firmly believes in the possibility of achieving peace with the neighboring country. Ara Ayvazyan

Former RA Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan writes:

"With the justification of not going on the path of escalation, the Armenian authorities avoided responding to Aliyev's recent statements, in which he described our country as a "fascist state" and a "threat for the region", presenting another ultimatum that "Fascism must be destroyed. it will destroy either the leadership of Armenia or us, there is no other way out."

Instead, it was mentioned that it is necessary to understand why the societies of Armenia and Azerbaijan have formed such an opinion towards each other.

Official Yerevan firmly believes in the possibility of achieving peace with the neighboring country, putting aside what kind of state we are dealing with and, accordingly, what kind of peace does Baku want and what price should Armenia and the Armenian people pay?

As a reminder. The leader of Azerbaijan himself admitted that his life's mission was to win the war, not political settlement.

By unleashing a war and winning on the battlefield, he avoided paying a political price, because he realized that the force factor is again becoming decisive in international relations, therefore, the war will not be described as immoral as before and will not be seen as a gross violation of international law.

Since 2020, the "Iron Fist" has turned into a source of national pride and a symbol of Azerbaijanis, which implicitly demonstrates that force remains the most preferred means of achieving the strategic goals of the neighboring country.

Aliyev's consistent statements and demands leave little room for doubt that what he has already achieved is encouraging him to raise the military and war stakes.

Such fetishization of war reminds us of Charles Darwin's 1859 the theory of evolution with which he introduced the concept of "survival of the fittest".

In the tremendous excitement generated by the basic idea of evolution, it was inevitable that the concept of "survival of the fittest" would spread to other fields.

Thus developed "social-Darwinism," which assumed that those societies or nations that were most fit to survive survived, and what could be a more obvious measure of fitness than the demonstrated ability to wage and win wars? :

Social Darwinism led to the emergence of a new, different and dangerous idea that national societies have a unique opportunity to demonstrate their true value in war.

This is where the origins of German militarism and then fascism come in. For example, consider the following affirmations:

"Eternal peace is a dream, and not a beautiful one at that.

The noblest virtues of man are revealed in war" (Distinguished military leader, Chief of the General Staff of the Prussian Army, Field Marshal Helmut von Moltke),

"War is a biological necessity of primary importance" (Prussian general and pre-World War I most widely read military historian Friedrich von Bernhardt),

"Mankind has grown strong in eternal struggles, and it will be destroyed only by eternal peace" (Adolf Hitler).
Back to the present day, Azerbaijan, armed to the teeth and rattling its guns day and night, demands the complete demilitarization of Armenia, depriving it of any immunity of defensiveness and resistance in order to fulfill its predatory goals.

Azerbaijan, which has propagated hatred against Armenians for decades, committed wars and war crimes, adopted the "best practice" of national discrimination of the Nazi Reich, and committed ethnic cleansing and genocidal crimes, demands the denazification of Armenia, otherwise, if not under any circumstances, it threatens and prepares for a new war. :

Such a country, which has a maddening taste of military victory over Armenians, is the biggest threat to the stability of the region. Therefore, instead of the "historical" or "real" Armenia, the public should be presented with the "real Azerbaijan", which does not want to be pacified regime, the exact opposite is happening, gradually leading to the moral-ideological disarmament of our people. The last episode was the circulation of "judgments" regarding the Armenian Genocide which is nothing more than the adoption of a policy of denial and the beginning of denial of our national tragedy.

Instead of artificially transforming our collective self-awareness and way of thinking, we must face the bitter truth. No document or agreement with this type of adversary will bring peace. It is not possible to cancel war at any cost, because avoiding war often only leads to a delayed war. The alternative is not a radical hardening of the rhetoric, nor a turning of the situation into an unmanageable one.

Our goal must be realistic: to provide tolerable stability through the creation of effective deterrence mechanisms based on a new strategic balance.

Next: the consequences of impunity also affect those actors who, as a result of the pursuit of their goals, turned a blind eye to Baku's criminal self-assertion and today are receiving the first fruits of their policy.

The concept of "survival of the fittest" as well as the poison of militarism, Nazism and fascism will always find fertile ground and will become uncontrollable over time in the absence of opposition. In a few months, the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory will pass. No one can deny the fact that Armenia and the Armenian people made a great and undeniable contribution to the defeat of fascism.

No one can ignore that today we are facing new manifestations of fascism.

It may seem that, like the Sudetenland and then Czechoslovakia, Artsakh and Armenia can be sacrificed for some purpose. The tragic lessons of the so-called "pacification" of Munich are the best reminder and warning for our time.
