Tesla has started selling the premium version of its best-selling Model Y

Tesla on Thursday launched a new, more expensive version of the Model Y, its best-selling car, in the United States, Canada and Europe, weeks after it was first launched in China, Reuters reported.

According to the American electric car maker's website, the new Model Y, the long-range all-wheel drive version, will cost $59,990 in the US, a 25% increase over its predecessor, which costs $47,990.

The new version comes with fully self-driving software, an optional $8,000 addition to the previous model.Tesla will begin deliveries of the new car in March.

Tesla now offers four variants of the Model Y in the US, with the new car costing more than the top-of-the-line version.

According to Tesla, the new version also has an updated exterior, upgraded features inside and a slightly increased range of 325 miles.

Tesla first launched the Model Y in 2020, and it became the world's best-selling car in 2023. The aging model lost sales momentum last year, hurt by competition from rivals in China, while demand for electric cars weakened in other markets.
