The US intelligence chief accused Russia, the People's Republic of China and Iran of trying to influence the United States elections

The number of foreign actors, including non-state actors, seeking to influence US elections is growing, with Russia, China and Iran the most prominent, according to Reuters, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haynes told a Senate hearing on Wednesday.

The Russian government's goals in such influence operations usually include undermining confidence in US democratic institutions, exacerbating socio-political divisions in the US, and weakening Western support for Ukraine, Haynes emphasized.

But according to Haynes, the US government's election protection efforts have improved significantly since the 2016 presidential election, and the government has never been better prepared.
