The United States administration opposes Israeli airstrikes on Beirut. Vedant Patel, the deputy head of the press service of the US State Department, stated this in a regular briefing with journalists.
He was asked if Washington was concerned about an Israeli air strike on the Lebanese capital that killed 21 people on Wednesday.
"Of course, we are concerned. You have heard from us many times that we do not want to see such regular activities in Beirut, especially in densely populated areas. This is something that we will continue to pay special attention to in our contacts with our partners in Israel," answered the diplomat.
He reaffirmed the need for a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Israel and Lebanon, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which should allow civilians on both sides of the Blue Line (the color of the helmets of UN peacekeepers stationed along the border between Lebanon and Israel) ) to return to their homes.
