German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that he will submit a vote of confidence to the government on December 16, and the country's parliamentary elections will be held in February next year, Associated Press reports.
Scholz noted that he will try to pass several important bills before that moment.
European media reported earlier that Scholz, whose ruling coalition recently lost its majority in parliament, is likely to lose a vote of confidence in the government.
In case of such developments in the country, it will be necessary to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections.
