Türkiye received an offer to become a BRICS partner

Turkey has received an offer to become a partner country of BRICS, said the Minister of Trade of the Republic Omer Bolat in an interview with TVnet. “Turkey has been offered to become a partner country in BRICS, this is a transitional process,” he said. Bolat noted that joining the association will bring significant benefit, since it will allow cooperation with all the most important global platforms. As Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted in early November, Moscow welcomes Turkey’s interest in rapprochement with BRICS, but the decision on the parameters of Ankara’s participation in the work of the association will be made, among other things, on the basis of the consensus of its members. He added that Russia stands for expanding BRICS ties with the countries of the Global Majority, primarily with those who support multilateralism, pursue a sovereign foreign policy and do not join unilateral sanctions. The BRICS summit with the participation of heads of state was held in Kazan from 22 to 24 October. BRICS is an interstate association created in 2006 by Russia, China, India and Brazil; South Africa joined it in 2011. Moscow has held the post of chairman of the organization since January 1, 2024. Since the beginning of 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have joined BRICS. Russia's chairmanship in the association is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security.
