Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey currently have no plans to invite new countries to the Mecca Accord, a spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said at a weekly briefing. “There are no discussions at this stage on expanding the Mecca Accords,” he was quoted as saying by the Dawn newspaper.
“Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia should first strengthen their cooperation,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman said, after which “the organization will be open to all countries that share similar positions and views.”
On August 7, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif signed the Mecca Accords. It stipulates that an attack on one of the countries will be considered an act of aggression against all signatories to the agreement.
