More than 1,900 flights have been cancelled at UK airports after a major technical glitch in the air traffic control system, The Times newspaper reported, citing air traffic monitoring company Cirium.
Experts say flight cancellations continue to disrupt operations at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, London City and other airports. Martin Rolfe, head of the National Air Traffic Services (NATS), which is responsible for air traffic control in the UK, ruled out the possibility of a cyberattack.
He said a thorough investigation would be carried out. The regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority, has demanded that NATS submit a full report on the incident before considering further action to “ensure the safe operation of the air traffic control system” in the UK.
