The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia reported that a strong complaint was made to the ambassador of Japan in connection with the anti-Russian statements made by the leadership of that country after Putin's visit to Iturup Island.
The Japanese ambassador at the Russian Foreign Ministry was informed that Russia's sovereignty and jurisdiction over the South Kuril Islands are inviolable. Any attempt by Japan to directly or indirectly question the sovereignty of the South Kuril Islands is unacceptable and illegal.
The Japanese ambassador was informed that Moscow has the right to take appropriate countermeasures due to Tokyo's sanctions policy and support for the Kiev regime.
