CSTO General Secretary. The decision regarding the prospects of Armenia's participation should be taken within a reasonable period of time

The decision on the future prospects of Armenia's participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) should be taken within a reasonable period of time. General Secretary of the organization Taalatbek Masadikov told RIA Novosti about it.

"We proceed from the fact that the decision regarding the prospects of Armenia's participation in the CSTO should be adopted within a reasonable period of time," Masadikov said.

Earlier, the permanent representative of Russia in the CSTO Viktor Vasilev told RIA Novosti that the possible deprivation of Armenia's right to vote in the bodies of the organization would require the consent of all member states. According to him, this issue will probably be discussed by the leaders of the countries at the next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which will be held in Moscow on November 11.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced in June that due to non-payment of membership fees by Armenia, the CSTO will consider the possibility of applying the provision of the charter that regulates actions against states that do not fulfill their obligations.

Armenia actually stopped participating in CSTO activities in 2024. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained this by the fact that the allies' obligations regarding the security of Armenia were not fulfilled in 2021-2022.

CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
