US President Donald Trump believes that the murder of a police officer should be punished with the death penalty.
"Anyone found guilty of killing a police officer should be sentenced to death," Trump said during a speech in New York state.
The American leader claims that the number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty last year dropped to the lowest rate in 80 years.
Twenty-three US states have abolished the death penalty, and three more states have a moratorium on its use. However, Trump is in favor of expanding its application "for the most serious crimes".
