The World Health Organization (WHO) advises to follow the advice to avoid tick bites after the discovery of the bourbon virus in the USA, the organization told RIA Novosti.
"Citizens are advised to follow local health and epidemiological advice to avoid tick bites, especially when visiting places where these insects are present," Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) spokesman Sebastien Oliel told RIA Novosti.
He noted that the disease is quite rare. "Currently, there are no data on the annual global cases of the virus, as only a limited number of officially confirmed cases have been described in the scientific literature," the source of the agency explained. Moreover, most of the reported cases to date have been found in the United States, the WHO noted.
