"The US administration views the CPC (Caspian Pipeline Consortium) as an important route for the supply of energy from Kazakhstan to the European markets, which serves as an alternative to the Russian markets," the source said. According to the source, Chevron CEO Mike Wirth raised the issue of collateral damage caused by the Ukrainian strikes with White House officials. The company has a 15% stake in CPC and is interested in protecting its own infrastructure.
In July, a series of drone attacks on tankers took place near the CPC marine terminal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan did not rule out that Astana will demand compensation. The republic exports about 80% of its oil through CPC.
