The European Union has imposed a fine of 550 million euros on the Chinese online platform AliExpress due to the insufficient fight against illegal goods. As reported by the European Commission, fake clothes, unsafe toys and dangerous cosmetics remained available on the trading platform for weeks.
Brussels stated that AliExpress did not take "effective measures to reduce the risk of distribution of prohibited goods". The company was given a deadline until October to eliminate the detected violations.
If the platform does not comply with the requirements of the European Commission, new fines may be imposed on it.
