The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, once again emphasized the need to prepare and adopt a new constitution for the republic.
"We have an opportunity to build our democracy from the bottom up with a new, comprehensive, liberal and civil constitution," the Turkish leader said.
Erdogan noted that Turkey needs a basic law that will simultaneously ensure the protection of democracy, the rule of law and the interests of citizens.
The Turkish leader also expressed confidence that the adoption of the new constitution will allow the republic to achieve a "higher legal logic" that can ensure a balance between the state, law and society.
Erdogan has repeatedly stated that Turkey needs a new constitution to guarantee the country's future development, and work on a new version of the constitution continues. The Turkish leader called on all political forces to actively participate in the drafting of the new constitution. Moreover, Erdogan noted that Turkey's current constitution, which was adopted in 1982, no longer meets modern challenges, despite a number of amendments.
