German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will not go to Armenia on May 4 to participate in the summit of the European Political Community (ECC), which is attended by about 50 countries. According to the DPA news agency, this is the first time that the eighth summit of the European Union will be held without the Prime Minister of Germany.
"The German chancellor cannot leave due to other commitments," the spokesperson of the German government said in response to DPA's inquiry. "The Chancellor of Germany has already participated in two sessions of the European Council and is in active contact with many participants," he added.
It has not yet been decided who will represent the Chancellor of Germany. Mertz will participate in the session of the presidency of the Christian Democratic Union on May 4 in Berlin. The government's press service has not yet announced any other public events with the participation of the German chancellor.
