Ancient cities in Lebanon are under threat of destruction. The UN is sounding the alarm

Lebanon's ancient Phoenician cities are at risk of destruction due to the country's current conflict with Israel, and Lebanese cultural heritage cannot be allowed to be lost. This was stated by Jeanine Hennis-Plassert, UN special coordinator for Lebanon, on her social network page.

Earlier, the spokesman of the Israel Defense Forces, Avichai Adrai, on his social network page, called on the residents of Baalbek to leave their homes immediately due to the readiness of Israeli planes to strike the alleged targets of the Shiite Hezbollah movement in the city.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, the Minister of Culture of Lebanon's Interim Government, Mohammad Murtada, said that the world community and UNESCO must take swift action to prevent Israeli attacks on the ancient Roman temples of Baalbek.
