The Anti-Corruption Committee has officially confirmed that a number of school principals in Gegharkunik province, as well as the head of the relevant department of the governor’s office, have been arrested in the framework of a criminal proceeding initiated in connection with cases of giving and receiving bribes.
According to law enforcement officers, the head of the department is suspected of receiving bribes in several episodes in exchange for patronage and leniency for a group of people, including school principals.
It is noteworthy that Karen Zazyan is not a random or newly appeared official in the regional administration system. According to the official website of the Gegharkunik regional governor’s office, he was appointed to the position of head of the education, culture and sports department back on March 30, 2018 and has held that position for more than eight years.
