Tariffs on French wines will affect up to 40 percent of imports into the United States

Tariffs that may be introduced by US President Donald Trump on the import of French wine and champagne may affect up to 40 percent of the supplies of this alcoholic beverage imported to the US, RIA Novosti found out, based on data from the US Customs Service.

Trump announced on Tuesday that if France does not join the "Peace Council" on Gaza at his invitation, he will impose 200 percent tariffs on French wine and champagne, and in that case, according to the American leader, French President Emmanuel Macron will still agree.

The French president's administration called those threats "unacceptable" and "ineffective", and the country's minister of agriculture, Anne Genevere, described them as blackmail.

In the period between January and October 2025, French companies supplied wine to the US market in the amount of about 2 billion dollars. As a result, France has become the largest exporter of US wine.
