On December 14, Grigor Hakobyan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Iran, met with Ali Akbar Velayati, the adviser on international affairs of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Iran against Velayati, senior adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran, told the Armenian Ambassador in Tehran that he is against US President Donald Trump's plan to create a transit corridor through Southern Armenia connecting the two parts of Azerbaijan, considering it a threat to his security.
The senior adviser of Iran's supreme leader stated that Iran was initially against the so-called "Zangezur Corridor" because Tehran rejects any change in regional borders and is wary of security threats. IRNA reports.
According to the senior adviser of Iran's supreme leader, that corridor could ensure the presence of NATO in the north of Iran, which would create serious security risks for the northern regions of Iran and the south of Russia. He added that "Trump's plan" is essentially the same project, only with a changed name, and is currently being implemented through the entry of American companies into Armenia.
