During the discussion of the 2025 budget project, referring to Ara Shirinyan, the chairman of the Public Broadcaster Council, government deputy Tsovinar Vardanyan said this.
"I can't say that it is a multi-cultural, multi-cultural channel that can attract more viewers. From the point of view of financial efficiency, maybe there is a need for redistribution, have you thought in this direction? The state gives public money to a channel that does not justify itself at all.
There is a budget that can be invested more effectively, for example, in Public Radio, which will work more effectively with the money of this channel," said the deputy. Reacting, Ara Shirinyan said: "We didn't think about it, but we deal with it every day. Effective spending implies certain actions that we measure by international standards. This is how I understood: it is possible to close "Shogakat" and finance Public Radio.
It is not a legal action, because it is not management, but it has taken some actions in a panic. I do not think that both "Shogakat" and Public Radio are working ineffectively, they are working to the extent of their abilities, sometimes even more.
A channel like "Shogakat" is an international norm, and it's not like they invented it for us, they live like that. If there is no cultural program, our society will become a society of political parties. I don't want to argue with you about taste, Mrs. Vardanyan, good or bad is a very private matter. If there is a better one, we can look at bringing in a better one."
