Vladimir Putin has been stressing the need for presidential elections in Ukraine for a long time, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the president.
"This is what Putin has been talking about for a long time. This is what Trump recently talked about. We will see how the events will develop in this direction," he said.
Peskov once again noted that Moscow is working towards peace in Ukraine, not a ceasefire.
"Stable, guaranteed, long-term peace, which will be achieved by signing relevant documents, is an absolute priority," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He added that Russia has not yet had time to discuss Zelensky's statement about his readiness for the elections with the United States.
