Indonesia has announced its desire to join BRICS

Indonesian authorities have expressed their desire to join BRICS at the "outreach" / "BRICS plus" format meeting within the 16th summit of the association. This is stated in the message published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

"Indonesia expressed its desire to join BRICS during the BRICS Plus meeting in Kazan," the text reads.

"Indonesia joining BRICS is a manifestation of free foreign policy," Foreign Minister Sujiono said. "This does not mean that we join any camp, we actively participate in all formats," he added.

"We see that the BRICS priorities are in line with the work programs of the Indonesian government, among others related to food and energy security, poverty alleviation or human resource development," the Indonesian foreign minister said. According to him, by participating in BRICS, Indonesia wants to draw attention to "the common interests of developing countries and countries of the global south".

On October 22-24, the 16th BRICS summit was held in Kazan, which is the key event of the presidency of the Russian Federation in the association.
