Scientists have found out what keeps the memory in a multiple sclerosis

Physically healthy multiple sclerosis (MS) patients have a better cognitive function than sedentary lifestyle. This conclusion was scientists from the University of Finland. The results of their study were published in the central nervous system of disease (JCNSD).

MS is often accompanied by the deterioration of memory, attention and thinking. To find out how these indicators have been associated with the physical condition of patients, scientists conducted a comprehensive study with volunteers. The group measured how far the participants can walk in six minutes. The researchers also tracked the volunteer's daily activity through sensors and conducted memory and information processing tests.

It turned out that cognitive abilities have significantly reduced people with more severe motor disorders. There has been a particularly clear link between individual disease symptoms between physical training and thinking. The longer they walked the distance during the test, the better they overcame the attention and response speed tasks.

Scientists have also found that healthy active in healthy people are also positively related to cognitive functions. However, against the background of heavy sclerosis, the connection between mental capacity and movement has weakened, probably due to a more serious injury to the nervous system.

"Our data confirms the need to include cognitive tests in regular monitoring of multiple sclerosis patients," said Marco Luostarine, the author of the study.

According to him, this will help not only to better understand the patient's condition, but also choose effective rehabilitation programs, including exercises.
