WhatsApp will get a new function of fighting fraud

WhatsApp developers have announced a number of new functions aimed at raising security and protect users from fraud. This is stated in the Meta blog (which has been recognized as extremist and prohibited in Russia).

Among the main changes is the possibility of a preview of group chats, the user of which has been invited to an unknown contact. Before joining such chat, you will be able to see who created it when it happened, how many participants are in Chat and are any of them with a conserved contact. The notifications received from such chat will be defaulted until the user does not take part in the conversation.

In addition, WhatsApp will start warning users about possible fraudulent actions, offering tips on safe behavior in Mesenges. The platform also draws attention to the new strategy of the attackers, move the communication outside the app, and then move the conversation to personal messages. In this regard, the company tests tools that will slow down the user's response to the messages received from strangers, in particular, showing additional information about the sender.

Within the framework of the fight against fraud, WhatsApp also announced a joint action with Meta and Openai, which was found in Cambodia and neutralized a fraudulent network. Attackers used Mesonger to organize financial burger and other financial schemes. As a result of the investigation, more than 6.8 million suspicious accounts were blocked in Southeast Asia.
