Edgar Mkhitaryan and Hayk Julhakyan, winners of the 11th republican competition named after Edward Mirzoyan


The 11th republican competition of young composers named after Edward Mirzoyan was held on May 11-15 at the initiative of the Union of Armenian Composers with the support of the RA Ministry of Education and Culture. It gathered 16 young composers of Armenian nationality from Armenia, the Russian Federation, and Georgia under its roof. KGSMN informs NEWS.am that in two stages of the competition (May 11 and 13, concert hall of the Union of Composers of Armenia) during the event, the members of the junior group (up to 13 years old) presented one Armenian-language song based on the verses of an Armenian poet, and one solo work of up to 5 minutes, the participants of the senior group (14-18 years old) - one ensemble (for up to four instruments) and one solo piece for any instrument (up to 10 minutes long). On May 15, the Gala concert and award ceremony of the competition took place in the "Arno Babajanyan" concert hall, during which the works of the prize winners were performed. Hayk Julhakyan (class: Arpine Kalinina), second place: William Chilingaryan (class: Vahagn Vardanyan), third place: Gagik Avetisyan (class: Armenuhi Karapetyan). The youngest participant of the competition, 8-year-old Ariana Avetisyan (class: Armenuhi Karapetyan) was awarded an incentive award. Edgar Mkhitaryan (class: Maria Ghushchyan) was the winner of the senior group. Both the second and third positions in the senior group were shared between two participants. Gayane Mkhchyan (teacher: Aram Hovhannisyan) and Victoria Ulikhanyan (teacher: Satenik Hakobyan) took the second place, Suzanna Aghamalyan (teacher: Naira Divanyan) and Aren Abgaryan (teacher: Ashot Ghazaryan) took the third place. all participants received incentive gifts, certificates, the opportunity to participate in master classes with famous figures of the field, and the participants who took prize positions also received name trophies of the competition. Apart from this, the winners also received cash prizes. By the way, the teachers of the participants who won prizes were also awarded with monetary prizes. Let us add that the jury included famous cultural figures, the president of the Union of Composers of Armenia, the honored figure of art of the Republic of Armenia, the composer Aram Satyan, the People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia, the honorary citizen of Yerevan, the composer Martin Vardazaryan, Honored Art Worker of RA, Dean of the Faculty of Vocal Theory of Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, Conductor of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia and the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet Ruben Asatryan, Honored Art Worker of RA, Director of Art Institute of NAS RA, Musicologist Anna Asatryan, Honored Art Worker YPC of RA head of the chair of jazz/pop music, composer Narine Zarifyan, honored artist of RA, laureate of the RA state award, composer Eduard Hayrapetyan, artistic director of the republican competition named after Edward Mirzoyan, Edmond Makaryan.
