Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that Türkiye and the region must prepare for a potential war between Israel and Iran, pointing to the “high likelihood” of such a conflict occurring.
“The likelihood of war between Israel and Iran should be considered high,” Fidan said in a television interview. “I believe that assessing this as a high probability by regional states would be the most sensible step, since we must be prepared for such a scenario both as a country and as a region. Fidan warned of the possibility of widespread instability and increased conflict in the region, which he said was undesirable. Fidan reiterated Turkey's opposition to any conflict that could escalate into war with Iran, saying Ankara is "totally against it." However, he recognized Iran's right to legitimate self-defense, should it be exercised.
