Orban. Hungary opposes ban on oil and gas supplies from Russia

Hungary is in favor of eliminating economic sanctions against Russia and does not support the European Commission's program to ban energy supplies from Russia. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, speaking to the participants of the conference of the Speakers of the Parliaments of the European Union in Budapest.

He stressed that he is against the Brussels initiative, which will raise oil, gas and electricity prices and "will simply kill the Hungarian economy." "Imagine that energy prices for households and companies will be doubled, Hungarian families will not endure it," he said.

Orban noted that this is the reason why Hungary is in favor of a speedy settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, "Hungarians want peace, and they would like to get rid of the policy of economic sanctions in Brussels as soon as possible."

Earlier, the Hungarian government announced that the European Commission's program to stop importing energy from Russia in the coming years will lead to additional costs of up to 2 billion euros a year.
