Scientists have found that fasting can change the immunity

Scientists from Manchester University have discovered a mechanism that regulates the brain during fasting inflammation in the body. It turns out that the feeling of hunger, even without the actual refusal without eating, is enough to make changes in the immune system. The study was published in the magazine of Science Immunology (Sciim).

Scientists have found that the specialized neurons of the hypothalamus are responsible for the feeling of hunger, activate the processes that lead to inflammation pressure. When these neurons were artificially aggravated, the immune system was rapidly reconstructed by mice. In particular, the number of special monocytes in the blood, the main cells involved in the development of chronic inflammation, has dropped sharply.

This revelation challenges the former idea that the immune response to hunger is due to the lack of nutrients exclusively. According to scientists, it is the feeling of starvation to the immune system to reduce inflammation.

The finds can explain why obesity is often accompanied by chronic inflammation and why malnutrition increases the sensitivity of infections, say scientists.

"We have proved that the brain controls the immune cells and inflammatory reactions from above to bottom. This opens new opportunities for contagious and metabolic diseases, as well as relief states, such as cancer, treatment, "said the research co-authored De Albukkaken.
