In the city of Houston, Texas, USA, seven people were killed as a result of severe weather caused by downed power lines and trees and the collapse of brick walls, reports NBC News.
A 110 mph gust was reported in Cypress, and a gust of up to 100 mph was reported in Houston.
"We haven't seen wind like this in Harris County since Hurricane Alicia in 1983," District Judge Lina Hidalgo said at a press conference.
Hurricane Alicia made landfall in the San Luis Pass on August 18, 1983. According to the meteorological service, it killed 21 people, and the total damage amounted to more than 3 billion dollars.
