A suspect in plotting a terrorist attack in the United States was detained in France.

French police have detained a 22-year-old Afghan citizen as part of a case of preparing a terrorist attack in the United States during the presidential elections in November, Agence France-Presse reports, citing a statement from the French national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office. "French police have detained a 22-year-old Afghani man associated with a compatriot in the United States , who is suspected of planning a terrorist attack on election day,” the agency writes.

It is noted that the person detained in France is suspected of supporting IS (Islamic State, ISIL is a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
A source told France Presse that the Afghan man detained in France may be the brother of a compatriot detained in the United States, but prosecutors could not confirm this information.

Another source told the agency that three people were initially detained in southwestern France in connection with the case, but two of them were later released.
