Within the framework of state control over nuclear installations, control over the improvement of safety of the Armenian nuclear power plant and the fulfillment of the conditions and requirements attached to the operation license of the 2nd power unit continued.
It is stated in the message of the RA Nuclear Security Regulation Committee.
"Reports were analyzed, 15 safety system modification implementation packages were analyzed, 30 safety-critical programs and instruction packages were analyzed, and conclusions were drawn.
6 permits for the implementation of works important for safety have been granted.
4 inspections were carried out at the Armenian nuclear power plant, 4 persons occupying important positions from the point of view of safety were subjected to administrative responsibility.
The committee carried out an observation and analysis of the works planned for the double extension of the 2nd power unit of the NPP. The committee continued to study the projects selected for the construction of a new power unit.
Within the framework of state control over activities using sources of ionizing radiation, the Committee carried out state registration of sources of ionizing radiation (83) and issuance of new licenses (legal entity: 26, natural person: 93), extension of license validity period: 5, termination of license validity: 9 :
2024 within the scope of regulatory control of health, scientific and industrial facilities, inspections, studies of the fulfillment of requirements attached to the license were carried out, decommissioning and neutralization of the radioactive source, etc. were carried out as necessary.
In 2024 23 inspections were carried out, as a result of which 265 orders were issued. 5 persons occupying an important position from the point of view of security were subjected to administrative responsibility. Radiation monitoring of the environment was carried out using modern systems implemented with the support of the European Union and the IEA.
As a result of monitoring, no deviations in radiation situation were found.
Efforts have been made to revise the Law of the Republic of Armenia "On the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes" and to bring the legislation of the Republic of Armenia closer to the EU directives.
Taking into account the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement signed with the European Union, the Committee has embarked on the approximation of RA legislation to European Union directives. In the first stage, the Law on the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes, which was developed in 1999 and has undergone many changes, is being reviewed.
In order to update the draft law in 2024. comments and suggestions were submitted to the project development group. For the purposes of international (EAEA and EU) expertise, the revised draft was translated into English and presented to the international expert group.
The draft of the new law will be submitted to the RA Prime Minister's office in September 2025. The "Radiation Safety Norms and Rules" is also being reviewed, in the second stage, in accordance with the new law, new documents will be revised and developed, which will regulate the provision of radiation safety norms and rules.
In 2024, the TC programs carried out with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continued, as well as the works carried out within the framework of various commissions of the CIS member states in the field of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes.
