The newly elected US President Donald Trump wants to meet with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin as soon as possible. He announced this in an interview with Newsmax.
"And I know he wants to meet, and I'm going to meet very soon. I'd like it to happen sooner. But, you know, you have to take office," Trump said.
In an interview with ABC News, Trump's future adviser on national security issues, Mike Waltz, said that phone conversations between the Russian leader and the newly elected US president may take place in the near future.
Trump has previously said that he would like to meet with Putin in the first six months of his presidency and is open to such contacts. Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian head of state, noted that Putin is ready to meet his new American counterpart without any conditions, while, according to him, "there are no specifics" for now.
