The Defense Ministers of India and the Republic of Maldives, Rajnath Singh and Mohammed Ghassan Maumoun, have agreed to develop defense cooperation between the two countries with a special focus on strengthening maritime security and information sharing, the Indian Defense Ministry announced at a ministerial meeting in New Delhi.
"During the talks, both sides reaffirmed their strong commitment to work closely together to realize the shared vision of a comprehensive economic and maritime security partnership between India and the Maldives," it said.
Singh "reaffirmed India's commitment to support the Maldives in enhancing its defense preparedness capabilities, including the provision of defense equipment and materiel," the ministry said.
According to the Wion TV channel, India donated defense equipment worth more than 4 million dollars to the Maldives at their request.
