What is metapneumavirus? 50 cases were found in Armenia in January-April 2024


The National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided details on what the metapneumavirus is.

"Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is an acute respiratory infection that spreads mainly through the air, rarely through contact with household items.

As a result of laboratory research carried out within the framework of the epidemiological system implemented in Armenia, 10 cases of metapneumovirus were found in 2023, and 50 cases in January-April 2024.

As a result of laboratory tests carried out from April until now, no metapneuvovirus was found.

The symptoms are the same as in the case of all acute respiratory infections: fever, cough, runny nose, difficulty breathing, headache. In order to prevent acute respiratory infections, including the metapneuma virus, the Ministry of Health urges you to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap, especially after visiting public places. and before eating.

Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of respiratory infections Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces and objects in your home and workplace Avoid touching your face with dirty hands Ventilate areas regularly Get vaccinated against seasonal flu.

If you notice symptoms characteristic of an acute respiratory infection, follow the rules of cough etiquette. wear medical masks and change them every 4 hours, stay home and see a doctor as soon as possible.
