A 6.0-magnitude initial earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture on Monday, the same area that was hit hard by a powerful earthquake on New Year's Day without a tsunami warning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, Kyodo reported.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers at 6:31 a.m. and registered a magnitude of 5 on the Japan Seismic Scale of 7. The magnitude was revised down from 5.9 6.0
Another 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Noto area at 6:40 a.m. in Suzu, with a magnitude of 4.
