An earthquake occurred in the Tibet Autonomous Region, located in the southwest of China. The number of victims reached 32, and another 38 were injured. This is reported by Xinhua agency. The Sohu portal wrote about 36 victims. The seismic event led to the destruction of more than 1000 buildings in the autonomous region.
Search and rescue operations have been organized in the disaster zone, the population is being evacuated. It is noted that the bodies of the dead were found under the rubble in Lhatse, Sakya and Tingri regions.
This morning, the US Geological Survey reported a 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Tibet. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the border with Nepal, 163 km southwest of the city of Shigatse, with a population of about 80 thousand people. The center was located at a depth of 10 km.
