China plans to expand the length of its existing high-speed rail lines to about 60,000 km by 2030, up from 48,000 km by the end of 2024, data from the country's rail operator showed on Thursday, the Gov said.

As the country continues to improve its rail infrastructure, the operational length of its rail network is expected to reach 180,000 km by 2030, up from 162,000 km at the end of 2024, according to China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway).

China Railway said the country's investment in fixed assets in the rail sector is expected to reach 590 billion yuan (about US$82.08 billion) by 2025, with 2,600 km of new rail lines planned for the year.

China's railway network carried a record 4.08 billion passengers in 2024, up 10.8 percent from 2023, and is expected to continue growing in 2025, potentially reaching 4.28 billion, according to the companies.
