The Italian ambassador to Tehran, Paula Amadi, was summoned to the local Foreign Ministry in connection with the arrest of a citizen of the Islamic Republic in Italy, reports the Iranian state agency IRNA.
"The Italian Ambassador to Tehran, Paola Amagi, was summoned by the Director General of Western European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majid Neili Ahmedabadi, in connection with the ongoing detention of the Iranian citizen Mohammad Abedini by the Italian authorities," the message reads.
It is noted that during this meeting, the head of the Western European Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry called Abedini's arrest an illegal operation, which was carried out at the request of the US government.
According to him, such actions of the Italian government harm the relations between Iran and Italy and contradict international law, including human rights norms.
